Behind the scenes making feather headbands

I am getting a bunch of feather headbands (among other stuffs) ready for a craft fair and a fundraiser at Bella for the Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery. These are relaxing to make and fun to mix and match feathers from my growing collection. These are perfect if you want a little something extra but aren't so sure about having a ruffly do-dad in your hair or a deer on your head. They aren't intimidating and make you 1000 times more awesome. It's true.

I am excited for the craft fair because it is my first one (Renegade...you're next on the goals list) If you're in Lincoln, NE on Saturday November 21 stop on over to the Southwood Lutheran Church (3900 South 40th St.) between 9-4pm and say hi!

The fundraiser boutique is at Bella (my favorite spa in town) and you can purchase jewelry, PGT accessories and other fiber arts on Thursdays - Saturdays 12-6pm for the following dates:
Nov. 19-21
Dec. 3-5
Dec. 10-12
Dec. 17-19

Special dates include:
Opening Reception Wednesday November 18, 6-8pm and a Tea Party on Sunday December 13, 1-4pm
I hope to see you there!

Carmel Walsh: Most awesome shoes ever

There are things in this world that make you go, 'Oh cool!' and then there are things that make you go, 'OMG that is so effing cool!' Do you see the distinction? This is one of those OMG moments for me.

You must click over to Yatzer to check out this post on Carmel Walsh and her totally awesome creations! Wow!
It's love at first sight! I just don't know what else to say except, Carmel, will you be my friend?

PS. it's really about shoes - but I had to post the one hat photo....

Fire and Rain by James Taylor

I love Fire and Rain by James Taylor - It is bittersweet and beautiful, no? Take a moment and listen.

Put this in your blog reader and smoke it!

Over the past few months I've been a more active member of the online world. It's been great fun getting to know and keep up with the goings-on online between new friends old friends (and the people I stalk and don't know I call them a friend). Joining Twitter, Facebook and maintaining this blog and finding other great blogs has introduced me to new people and views and radical links (and don't we all love discovering something new online). Unfortunately, my internet etiquette has been particularly poor when it comes to publicly thanking some wonderful members of this online world until this late date. Each of them have shown their support via posts, interviews and Twitter RTs or plugs. So it is here that I say Thank You to Ashe, Michelle and Alexandrea. Thank you for your support.

The following ladies all write and publish content to their own blogs for the enjoyment of us (their public!). If you haven't been introduced to their piece of the virtual world - please hop on over to each - read some posts and say hi. They are pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

Dramatis Personae
Ashe has regular posts about fashion and the like - but you won't find a hair tossing, elitist vibe over there. Fresh and interesting posts about OMG-style shoes, new indie designers and reviews on mysterious products (to me) like dry shampoo. Plus the occasional guest posts on things like wigs and vibrators. You never know what you'll get -but it's always good. Stop over to wish her well on a new life chapter in New Orleans!
Read an interview with me here.

Wicked Whimsy (formerly Decline Designs)
Michelle's blog is going through some re-branding and she's adding more of herself into the blog. That sort of mission is one of the reasons you've got to love Michelle. She's a no-nonsense American woman and all about personal style (not canned crap from the mall). She writes posts on daily outfits, tattoos, and how to handle workwear to Halloween costumes - just to cite a few. I love Michelle's Marvelous Monday posts where she links to some of her favorite finds online - which its particularly bad for my blog reader and general time management here at PGT. Plus we are both Libras.

Design Life by Alexandrea Jane.
Alexandrea's blog is just starting up but with the beginning posts up on the blog as measurement - I am excited to see what she writes about next. She posts beautiful pictures and video clips and has short and sweet posts - perfect morning coffee reading material! Plus we share a hatred for the feeling of cotton balls and we both love salt and vinegar chips.
Read an interview with me on her site or read about how she found me.

Custom Kathryn Headband = Complete!

Kathryn has a genuine, laid back, earthy style that I wanted to capture in her custom "Me" headband. An important part of this design its repurposed nature. The teal stretch velvet was once a pillow case - the icy blue stretch twill was once a skirt - and the powder blue knit was once a sweater. The filler yarn was extra "unusable" bits from a project I long since completed. The only new parts are the cotton embroidery floss, thread and non-woven stabilizer in each leaf.

I just LOVE her hair color with the jewel tone. Is it not perfect?

A big thank you (once more) to the four ladies who started it all...Kathryn, Madison, Katey, and Steph! Stay awesome, ladies.

I'd love an opportunity to design a custom "Me" headpiece from Pretty Good Things for you! Vintage inspiration!

Did you know that Pretty Good Things now has a Vintage Hat section on PrettyGoodThings.com?

I found some great vintage fashion photos online that capture the essence of the selection on Pretty Good Things. Nowadays your style might not be dolled up as much as these ladies - but the rules have changed and you could add a hat to fancy-up your jeans and top or mix and match new with old. Be creative and daring!

Hat Style: Kristin Bell

Lookin' cool Kristin Bell!

I saw this photo in Women's Health magazine at the gym the other day and thought I needed to share the look.

Ok, ok. I know she's not really V. Mars but I still like to pretend. That's not strange is it?

A Coffee Drinkers Tip of the Day

If you take your coffee (or tea) with cream like I do you may have run into a pesky problem that can ruin your morning. The problem I am talking about, of course, is running out of milk or your chosen creamer.

Some weeks I am just not on top of the pre-planning and don't make it to the grocery store regularly (or at all...) and of course sometimes the milk just plain expires.

What do I do to solve this problem? I purchase the to-go packages of coffee creamer so when the problem of having stinky milk in the fridge - or none at all presents itself again - I'll have a trusty backup!

Custom Steph Fascinator = Complete!

First of all, Ms. Steph has totally awesome hair. Am I right, or am I right? But you know me, I am jealous of curly coiffed ladies - it just looks so cool. But before my commentary on her hair turns more towards the creepy side of adoration....I'll move on.

Custom Fascinator by Pretty Good Things (www.prettygoodthings.com). Kelly Green, Mustard Yellow, and Charcoal GraySteph's custom Me headband has a chic and graphic vibe. It isn't frilled out or have excessive do-dads - it is no-nonsense and fabulous. The swooshes direct the viewer's eye toward her face, her hair and of course back to the fascinator. But look at that hair! Loves.

This next photo is the beginning embroidery of a headband for yet another custom me headpiece from Pretty Good Things. And speaking of...I have to get back to work! Updates to follow.
